About Me
Scott McLain
Consultant
I’m a filmmaker, writer and musician who worked steadily in the live entertainment and film/tv production world since 1998 (with important exceptions) until the pandemic erased all of my work for 2020/21.
In the entertainment space I have developed and optioned film/tv projects with well-known people and was instrumental in the sale of Vee Jay Records to Concord Music Group back in 2014.
I’ve also done lots of blue collar work like painting and building maintenance / management.
As a great personal networker and finding myself without a gig after the Covid-19 lockdowns, this past two years of setbacks has been one of re-invention. Zoxster is a brand I created as a freelance independent consultant that provides your business both research and acquisition. My goal is to help you find the things you already need.
ONE DAY I HAD A THOUGHT:
“What if I reversed the sales ask?”
Instead of fielding calls for hundreds of sales people selling everything under the sun, what if you said “hey we need _______, let’s call Scott.” and then I did the due diligence and found you what you needed ? Think about it. It’s the opposite of sales.
You tell me what you need and I find it for you.
Think of me as a project manager who helps you do research, get quotes and delivers when you need it most.
I really believe in most cases I can help you accomplish your goals or help you figure out the solution to a problem.
If I can’t solve your problem? I will help you find someone that can.
Right now, your company or organization has a need. Make an appointment and let’s talk. I can help.
My Story+Mission
Sometimes, it’s necessary to turn an industry on it’s ear a bit. Here’s a bit of my story:
In the midst of a year where our usual work situations were turned upside down, those of us who have been living the gig-economy lifestyle were absolutely hammered. Usually, I typically do live entertainment related gigs – concerts and events – and then I fill those in with other things as I go along. I’ve been doing this for a long time. It was getting to be a hassle to always find new gigs though, so in an effort to smooth out my month to month income flows I started a business in 2019 – a house painting business – and I spent the better part of the summer months as a proper subcontractor. In the fall/winter months I worked on a tech startup I have long been developing. By the time February 2020 rolled around, I was already making plans for the summer work season and my next steps re: media and tech projects that I am developing.
To say it was the end of my work year is somewhat of an understatement. 2020 happened and it was suddenly time to pivot.
That pivot was Zoxster Consulting.
I’ve decided to make consulting a boots-on-the-ground job instead of just a high paid executive coaching position. I’ll file that paperwork and make those phone calls. I’m not beneath hitting the warehouse and rolling up my sleeves, either. It’s that kind of thing.
A consultant who doesn’t just advise but works.
The goal is to provide a service for small to medium sized businesses that is somewhere between a temp agency and a business coach. Give me a call when you need help with a project or something unexpected comes along and you don’t have the staff or the time to accomplish the goal.
